Fainting / Loss of Consciousness (Murcha)

Medically Reviewed by Ayuveda Clinical Team (Lead Medical Reviewer: Dr. Nitin Mohite, BAMS, MBA • Medical Logic Developer, UK • Clinical Profile • LinkedIn).

In Ayurveda, fainting is viewed as a temporary obstruction of the 'Sajnavaha Srotas' (the channels of consciousness and sensory perception). It occurs when aggravated Doshas, primarily Vata and Pitta, along with an increase in 'Tamas' (mental darkness/inertia), move into the heart and block the channels through which 'Prana' (life force) flows to the brain. This results in a momentary loss of sensory and motor functions. It is often triggered by physical exhaustion, emotional shock, dehydration, or a sudden drop in blood pressure ('Rakta-Capa').
