Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about how our AI combines ancient wisdom with modern technology.

Ayuveda AI™ is specialized and grounded in authentic Ayurvedic texts, unlike general purpose LLMs which can "hallucinate" or provide generic web-based information.

Our system uses sophisticated RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) technology to reference classical texts like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya before generating any response. This ensures that every piece of advice is traceable to legitimate Ayurvedic wisdom, providing a higher level of accuracy and safety for health-related queries.

Furthermore, general AI models often treat Ayurveda as "alternative medicine" with skepticism. Ayuveda AI™ understands the deep logic and scientific basis of Ayurvedic principles, acting as a true expert companion rather than a synthesizer of random internet articles.

Pada-Vishrama: Mindful Foot Elevation and Rest (Pada-Vishrama)

In Ayurveda, the feet are considered the foundation of the body's stability. Daily wear and tear, long periods of standing, or excessive walking can lead to Vata accumulation, manifesting as stiffness, dryness, or fatigue. Pada-Vishrama integrates the traditional wisdom of foot massage with intentional rest to restore softness, firmness, and vitality to the lower limbs.

When to practise

Best practiced in the evening before bed to transition the nervous system into a state of rest, or after a long day of physical activity.

Beginner shortcut

If time is limited, simply wash your feet with warm water, apply a small amount of warm sesame oil, and rest with your feet elevated on a pillow for 5–10 minutes.

Where it fits in your routine

  • Follow with a brief period of Shavasana (corpse pose) or lying on the left side to further support digestion and relaxation.

What you need

  • Supportive Cushion: A firm pillow or bolster to comfortably elevate the feet above the level of the heart.
  • Warm Water Basin: A vessel for a gentle foot soak to cleanse and prepare the skin.
  • Sesame Oil: Traditionally used for its warming and grounding properties to pacify Vata.
  • Soft Towel: To gently dry the feet after washing and massage.

How to practise

  • 1. Cleansing the Feet: Begin by washing your feet with warm water to remove dirt and fatigue, which traditionally supports clarity and comfort.
  • 2. Application of Oil: Warm a small amount of sesame oil. Gently massage the soles, heels, and toes, using circular motions to promote softness and firmness.
  • 3. Mindful Elevation: Lie down on a comfortable, level surface. Place a cushion under your calves or feet so they are slightly elevated, ensuring your spine remains neutral.
  • 4. Rest and Integration: Rest in this position for 10–15 minutes. Focus on the sensation of the feet, allowing the muscles to release tension and the mind to settle.

Benefits

  • Supports stability and strength in the lower limbs.
  • Traditionally used to induce deep, restful sleep.
  • Helps alleviate feelings of fatigue and stiffness.
  • Promotes a sense of grounding and Vata pacification.

Cautions

  • Stop immediately if you experience pain, dizziness, or skin irritation.
  • Consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner if you are pregnant, have chronic circulatory conditions, or are managing acute illness.
  • Ensure the feet are not elevated to a height that causes strain on the lower back or neck.

Common mistakes

  • Using cold oil or cold water, which can aggravate Vata.
  • Elevating the feet too high, causing discomfort in the lower back.
  • Performing the practice immediately after a heavy meal.
  • Using excessive pressure on sensitive areas of the feet.

Dosha notes

  • vata: Highly beneficial; the warming oil and rest help counteract Vata's dry and mobile qualities.
  • kapha: Keep the massage brisk and use a lighter touch to avoid stagnation.
  • pitta: Use cooling oils like coconut oil if there is excessive heat or burning sensation in the feet.

Seasonal notes

In winter and spring, ensure the room is warm and the oil is slightly warmed to counteract the cold, drying qualities of the environment.

Frequently asked questions

Can I practice this if I have cold feet?

Yes, but ensure you use warm oil and keep the feet covered with socks after the massage to retain the heat.

How often should I perform this?

It is recommended as a daily evening ritual to maintain balance, though it can be performed whenever you feel significant foot fatigue.
