Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about how our AI combines ancient wisdom with modern technology.

Ayuveda AI™ is specialized and grounded in authentic Ayurvedic texts, unlike general purpose LLMs which can "hallucinate" or provide generic web-based information.

Our system uses sophisticated RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) technology to reference classical texts like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya before generating any response. This ensures that every piece of advice is traceable to legitimate Ayurvedic wisdom, providing a higher level of accuracy and safety for health-related queries.

Furthermore, general AI models often treat Ayurveda as "alternative medicine" with skepticism. Ayuveda AI™ understands the deep logic and scientific basis of Ayurvedic principles, acting as a true expert companion rather than a synthesizer of random internet articles.

Gandusha (Oil Swishing) (Gandusha)

Gandusha, often referred to as oil pulling, is a simple, time-honored technique used to cleanse the oral cavity. By swishing high-quality, edible oil in the mouth, you help remove debris and support the natural balance of the oral microbiome.

When to practise

Best practiced in the morning on an empty stomach, immediately after brushing your teeth and scraping your tongue.

Beginner shortcut

Start with just 1–2 minutes of gentle swishing if 10–15 minutes feels overwhelming. Consistency is more important than duration when you are first starting.

Where it fits in your routine

  • Tongue scraping (Jihwa Prakshalana) followed by Gandusha, then rinsing with warm water.

What you need

  • Measuring spoon: To ensure you use the appropriate amount of oil (typically 1 tablespoon).
  • Organic, cold-pressed oil: Sesame oil or coconut oil are the most commonly used traditional choices.

How to practise

  • 1. Prepare the oil: Measure 1 tablespoon of organic, cold-pressed sesame or coconut oil into your mouth.
  • 2. Swish gently: Gently swish the oil around your mouth, moving it between your teeth and across your gums. Do not gargle or swallow.
  • 3. Maintain for duration: Continue the motion for 5 to 15 minutes. If your jaw becomes tired, take a short break or reduce the time.
  • 4. Discard properly: Spit the oil into a trash bin rather than the sink to prevent plumbing issues. The oil will likely appear milky or thin.
  • 5. Rinse and finish: Rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water to remove any remaining oil residue.

Benefits

  • Supports oral hygiene and cleanliness.
  • May help maintain healthy gums.
  • Promotes a sense of freshness in the mouth.
  • Encourages a mindful start to the morning routine.

Cautions

  • Stop immediately if you experience jaw pain, dizziness, or oral irritation.
  • Consult a qualified healthcare practitioner if you have chronic dental conditions, loose teeth, or are currently under the care of a dentist.
  • Not recommended for young children who may accidentally swallow the oil.
  • If you are pregnant or have specific health concerns, consult your primary care provider before starting new wellness practices.

Common mistakes

  • Swallowing the oil after swishing (it contains debris and should be discarded).
  • Swishing too vigorously, which can cause jaw fatigue.
  • Disposing of the oil in the sink, which may clog pipes over time.
  • Starting with too much oil, making it difficult to keep in the mouth.

Dosha notes

  • vata: Sesame oil is generally recommended for its warming and grounding qualities.
  • kapha: Sesame oil or sunflower oil may be used to provide a balanced, cleansing effect.
  • pitta: Coconut oil is often preferred for its cooling and soothing nature.

Seasonal notes

In colder months (Vata season), sesame oil is traditionally preferred for its warming properties. In warmer months (Pitta season), coconut oil may be preferred for its cooling nature.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use any oil?

It is best to use high-quality, organic, food-grade oils like sesame or coconut. Avoid refined or processed oils.

What if I feel nauseous?

If you feel nauseous, stop the practice immediately. You may be using too much oil or swishing too vigorously. Try a smaller amount or a shorter duration next time.
