Threadworms (Purishaja Krimi (under Krimi Roga))

Threadworms, also known as pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis), are tiny, white, parasitic worms that infect the intestines and rectum of humans, most commonly children. The infection, called enterobiasis, is highly contagious but generally not serious and is easily treatable. Female worms lay their eggs around the anus, often at night, which causes itching.

Ayurvedic perspective

In Ayurveda, threadworms, also known as pinworms, are categorized under 'Krimi Roga', specifically as 'Purishaja Krimi' (intestinal worms). This condition is primarily attributed to a weakened digestive fire (Mandagni or weak Agni) and the accumulation of toxins (Ama) in the digestive tract. An imbalance in Kapha and Vata doshas creates an environment conducive for worms to thrive. Contributing factors include poor hygiene, consumption of uncooked, unwholesome, or incompatible foods, excessive intake of sweets, and lack of physical exercise. Symptoms often include abdominal pain, bloating, altered appetite, itching around the anal region (especially at night), and sometimes visible worms in the stool.
