Peyronie's disease (Shishna Vakrata (or Vatika Medhra Roga))

Peyronie's disease is a noncancerous condition resulting from fibrous scar tissue (plaque) that develops on the penis, typically under the skin. This plaque causes the penis to curve or bend during erections, which can be painful and may lead to erectile dysfunction or significant emotional distress.

Ayurvedic perspective

Peyronie's disease is understood as a chronic condition involving Shishna Vakrata (penile curvature) and the formation of Granthi (fibrous plaques). From an Ayurvedic lens, it is primarily a Vata-dominant disorder affecting the Snayu (ligaments/connective tissues) and Mamsa (muscle) of the Medhra (penis). The pathogenesis (Samprapti) begins with micro-trauma or Vata-aggravating factors that lead to Rukshata (dryness) and Sthirata (stiffness). This is followed by Kapha-Meda Sanga, where thickened Kapha and fatty tissues accumulate to form a hard, inelastic plaque. If pain and inflammation are present, Pitta and Rakta (blood) involvement is also considered.
