Manas Assessment
Explore mind quality — Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas
A reflective questionnaire on mental tendencies through classical Ayurvedic gunas. Sign in to take it; results offer educational lifestyle framing — not a mental health diagnosis.
Understanding Manas
Adults interested in mind–body balance, mental clarity, drive, and inertia through an Ayurvedic lens — whether or not they already know their body Doshas.
What Manas is
Manas is the mind in Ayurveda — the field where perception, emotion, and choice move. Classical teaching describes three gunas (qualities): Sattva (clarity), Rajas (activity), and Tamas (inertia). Everyone carries all three; predominance can shift with lifestyle, sleep, and stress.
What it means practically
Sattva-leaning periods often feel clear and steady; Rajas-heavy periods feel driven or restless; Tamas-heavy periods feel dull or withdrawn. Educational guidance may emphasise sleep, sensory diet, meditation, and routine — without labelling you with a disorder.
How ayuveda.ai uses it
Your Manas profile complements Prakriti and Vikriti so Ask AI can speak to mind quality as well as body Doshas. It is stored for personalisation and learning — never as a clinical mental-health record.
Model / tradition: Classical Manas (mental gunas) assessment for educational digital use. Explores Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas tendencies — not a psychiatric screen, clinical scale, or therapy substitute.
The three gunas
These cards summarise educational qualities of Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. Balance matters more than chasing a single “pure” label.
Sattva
Clarity & harmony
“Light, clear, steady, compassionate”
- Calm focus and contentment
- Interest in learning and kindness
- Sleep that restores without excess
- Choices that feel aligned rather than reactive
Rajas
Activity & passion
“Mobile, stimulating, ambitious, restless”
- High drive and goal orientation
- Restlessness or impatience when excess
- Sensitivity to overstimulation
- Useful energy that needs grounding and rest
Tamas
Inertia & rest
“Heavy, obscuring, stable, dull when excess”
- Need for rest and recovery
- Withdrawal or fog when excess
- Resistance to change or new input
- Healthy in sleep and grounding; excess clouds clarity
Body Doshas vs mind gunas
Vata, Pitta, and Kapha describe somatic and physiological tendencies. Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas describe qualities of mind. Someone can have a Kapha body constitution with a Rajas-heavy mind season — or other combinations. Assessing both prevents reducing “who you are” to only physical type or only mood.

How to answer well
Be honest about recent weeks. There is no “best” guna — balance and awareness matter more than scoring high on Sattva.
- Answer for typical recent patterns, not your ideal self or a single crisis day.
- If you are sleep-deprived this week, note that — sleep strongly shifts Rajas and Tamas.
- Avoid answering to look virtuous; honest Rajas or Tamas insight is more useful.
- If you are in acute mental-health crisis, seek professional help first — this tool is not designed for that.
What you get
- Educational Sattva–Rajas–Tamas orientation from your answers
- Lifestyle reflection notes for sleep, stimulation, and routine
- Mind context that complements Prakriti and Vikriti in your profile
- Clear boundaries: educational wellness — not mental-health diagnosis
Manas FAQs
They are classical qualities of mind: clarity/harmony (Sattva), activity/passion (Rajas), and inertia/obscuration (Tamas). Everyone has all three in changing proportions.
